What the Name Means: This portable offshoot of the series' name involves a bit of math. Love the members of that group? Then by all means dive in to the remastered cinematics (or find the original game), but skipping even the cutscenes from this game won’t leave players all that confused to the overall series' scope. 358/2 Days fills in the lines of characterization for Organization XIII and for Roxas. The end of the game sets up Roxas’ part in Kingdom Hearts 2, but playing through the entirety of this Roxas-focused story isn’t all that key to grasping the larger picture of the franchise. And the game itself is a literal chain, connecting the events of the first and second numbered games while providing important and necessary context. What the Name Means: The idea of memory plays an important role throughout the franchise, and Chain of Memories shows how easily they can be manipulated. Organization XIII, Namine, DiZ, and Nobodies are all people or concepts worth understanding before jumping into Kingdom Hearts 2. Though the memories of this adventure are wiped from Sora’s mind at the start of Kingdom Hearts 2, Chain of Memories introduces many of the characters who are central to that sequel.
